Up to Date Info on Ferry to SavuSavu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello
I have just accepted a house sitting job in Fiji starting the end of June and I am trying to figure out dates for plane tickets,etc..and I am trying to get some current info on the ferry situation. Will be flying into Nadi. I came across a company that had a route from Lautoka but from what I have read, that is no longer in operation. From what I have gathered, there are other companies that offer service and I will have to travel to Suva. Does anyone know the schedule of these ferries? It seems they do not run daily. Are the schedules pretty consistent or would it be different in June than it is now? I asked all of this to the person for whom I will be housesitting but wanted to post here to see if I could get an answer sooner. Thanks for any info you can provide.

i house sat in Savusavu about 3 years ago for 4 months. If you google Bligh water shipping you will find some information about their ferry service.
When I went to savusavu the ferry was out of service for a while and seemed rather unreliable. I have heard since then the new boat is more reliable and more comfortable- try and get one you can get a cabin as it takes all night.People used to take a blanket and pillow and sleep on the floor.
I flew, it was about 3 or 4 times the price but easier from Nadi - and a lot faster.

Just fly, the views are superb. The boat is long and can get rough.
