Vanua Levu and/or Taveuni hotel suggestions

My soon to be wife and I will be spending our 10 day honeymoon in Fiji during the first two weeks of October. We have narrowed our focus to the islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni due to the variety of activities and close proximity to some of the best diving in Fiji. We have yet to pick an island of choice but are looking for suggestions on both. Our main question now is finding a place to stay while we are there. We would like to stay at a smaller boutique hotel (pool, AC & nice design) for a few days without paying the US$1,200+ per night. Our ideal would be the $500 range. Then we would like to find another small mid-range place ($100-$300 for the rest of our visit.

Does anyone have any suggestions on both types of hotels? Has anyone been recently that may know about a new place that may be a hidden and unknown jewel?

Pura Vida

On Taveuni, what used to be Susies Plantation has now been upgraded to THIS place. It is now out of my price range, but it seems to fit what you're looking for. I can vouch for the location, spacious attractive grounds, and the offshore snorkeling and diving is stunning.I haven't personally been to this place, but I've heard good things about it. It might suit as the lower-budget alternative.There are a lot of up-market resorts at the north end of Taveuni, around the airport at Matei. The resorts themselves might be OK, but overall I found it less attractive up there (although easier to get to the nature reserves on the east coast of Taveuni).
