Viti Levu and the Yasawas

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello!

My husband and I are traveling to Fiji in December for a delayed honeymoon. We only have two weeks, so we are planning to spend a week in the Yasawas and the second week touring Viti Levu. Does anyone know how far in advance we need to book hotels and flights (especially considering that we will be traveling during the Christmas holidays)? We plan on mainly frequenting backpacker/budget hotels and an occasional resort (including Octopus Resort).

Also, does anyone recommend visiting Taveuni over the Yasawas? Should we stay at just one hotel in the Yasawas, or should we plan to move around? Thanks in advance for your help!

For Octopus - book now. And if you're staying in the Yasawas for a week, one or two places at the most - otherwise you are spending too much time packing/unpacking/on the transfer boat.

I would suggest booking Octopus Resort as soon as possible - I booked 6 months in advance and had to play with the dates to get 5 nights in a row last September. But that was for a bure - it might be a bit easier if you are looking for the dorm. Friends of mine were there in January and could only get some nights in a bure and had to take the others in a tent. They are very popular!

I would certainly recommend Taveuni, perhaps Fiji's most beautiful island, instead of the Yasawas - but then I prefer exploring rainforests to lazing on beaches.

I just booked at the Octopus for next July (for our honeymoon) and I had to change my dates because they were already booking up. Again, that was for a bure, but if this is a honeymoon I imagine that is what you are looking for. Book now!!! Have a great time and when you get back, tell us all about it :)

Concur with Octopus being the perfect places to spend your Honeymoon, if it is full try Manta Ray good accommodation and food. A week at Walu Beach is also a good option. Above average food and Buri's are excellent..
