We are spending a week in the Yasawa islands and will have about 3 days to explore somewhere else. I was thinking of looking around Vitu Levu and possibly going up to the sand dunes and Nananu-i-ra or I could make my way to the Coral Coast and Pacific Harbour. We like to get involved in cultural or other activities (eg. snorkelling/hiking). Any recommendations? We should be there around August.
have a look at this place Danny's - two hours from Nadi by bus or car on the Coral Coast We had 4 days out at the Yasawa Islands and when we came back to Vitu Levu via the Yasawa Flyer, Danny's driver was waiting at Denarau Harbour to pick us up and then took us straight to Danny's where the most delicious dinner was waiting for us. you will have plenty of opportunity to experience cultural activities..local school visit, kava ceremony, lovo dinner etc the village is right in front of a marine reserve that has loads of fish and giant clams the hosts can take you on a hike to waterfalls and hill top views The hosts can also take you to the all the coral coast tourist attractions - National Park Sand Dunes, Tavuni Hill Fort, Sigatoka Markets and Eco Park etc at a fraction of the price charged by local resorts and tourist opperators. photos at this link http://www.fijihomestays.com/fiji_homestays_photos.htm youtube video at this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH9_Ui4J3lI I went with my husband and our 3 children and it was a FANTASTIC experience. It is how the world should be. hope this helps in planning your time in Fiji. | 1
Nananu-i-ra would be disappointing after the Yasawas. | 2
I love Nananu-i-ra! Mainly coz tourists don't tend to go there, it is very quiet and it has great diving. (Haven't made it to the Yasawas yet). | 3
