Waisalima Beach Resort: Dishonest business practicesCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
The owner of this resort is a dishonest women and not trust-worthy. I stayed there with my son for six nights very recently. She lied to us and deceived us from beginning to end. We asked for a package price, specifically including diving rental equipment. At checkout, she rudely argued with me that it was not included, even as I showed her the email copy. I was forced to pay an extra $F230. In addition, note that the website states "credit cards accepted". As soon as we paid the 25% deposit by CC, she informed us that we had to have cash for the balance (over F$2,000) which we had to carry around Fiji for 2 weeks as this was our last stop. I explained my concern and asked if Travelers Checks were ok..."Nope, cash only.. Oh yes, and by the way your package price (that includes transfers) does not include a fuel surcharge." The website also states that "High Speed" internet is available for guests. This is a slow (dial-up speed) connection that she will let you use, at an advertised rate of $F20/hr, when she feels like it. I used it three times for a total of, at most, 1hr, 15min. She tried to charge me for 6 hours, then when I argued, she "reduced" it to 2 1/2 hours. Since your only way back to the airport is by her boat, you have no recourse. At this point she is trying to sell the Resort. She is an unpleasant, bitter woman, and clearly does not care about being a host, much less an honest one. One the plus side, the local Fiji staff is friendly, and the diving is great. But why go all the way to Fiji and have your trip end like this? Go somewhere else. Sounds like a pretty sorry operation, thanks for the warning. | 1
Unless they have changed their website recently, I understood from it that I would pay a deposit (which I could put on credit card) but that I would have to pay the balance in cash when I arrived at the resort. This same information is repeated for both the accommodation and the diving page. It also states that travelers cheques are not accepted. It sounds as if there was some misunderstanding of their payment conditions. | 2
That place has been For Sale for a while now-and I've heard about that owner with her less-than-stellar personality. Credit Card surcharge info-you were lied to At the same time anyone travelling to a remote place like that should know that it's Cash Only . | 3
Interestingly, at Octopus, which is also "remote", they DONT ACCEPT CASH ! (cc only) | 4
