Water temperature off Yasawas mid early October

I'm just wondering about the average water temperature around the Yasawas during early to mid October.

I hope to do plenty of snorkeling there next month, but coming straight out of an NZ winter I'm finding it hard to visualize!

Should I plan on bringing along a light 3/4 wet suit? I don't generally suffer too much in cooler water, but I do like to be in the water for long periods.

We are heading there (Waya, then Nacula) on Friday this week, always go at this time of year. We snorkel every day, usually for 1 to 2 hours at a time, and have never needed a wetsuit. Often wear a very light T-shirt just to keep the sun off. The only people I have ever seen wearing wetsuits were a group of Chinese tourists last year. They possibly had never seen the sea before, wore wetsuits with hoods, gloves and bootees, lifejackets and a blow-up ring around their waists - and never got beyond waist depth in the water.

Northern NZ water is too cold for me now, even mid-Summer, but I have never felt cold in the Yasawas.

Thank you ThaiMarilyn, the resident Fiji expert! I usually do most of my diving in Asia so am pleased to hear I can expect some decent water temperatures on our trip to the Yawawas.

Are you heading off to the new Paradise Cove? Looks fab, I saw your recommendation for it and tried to book, but full up throughout October. I hope you have a great trip.

We are having 7 days at Octopus, 2 at Paradise Cove, then 11 at Blue Lagoon Beach Resort. Long term lovers of Octopus - 19th annual visit coming up! I see you mentioned early October for your trip - where are you staying? Wherever it is, I'm sure you'll love it.

We'll just miss you - staying at Octopus for ten day from October 7th. I've never done the resort thing, usually more independent, so initially a bit nervous but have heard plenty of positive stuff, so I think it will be a nice trip!
