Weather in december

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Im planning to travel to fiji with my whole family on december for about 10 days,
But i have heard a little of everything regarding weather, from dont go because you will most likely be in the middle of a hurracain to dont worrie and it will be sunny, could somebody please help me with some first hand info on how is really the weather in dec.

Thanks

Have a look at wunderground.com - if you go to the section on weather history you can get information on what the weather conditions were like for the past number of years. Usually it will have an hour by hour breakdown of what was happening weather wise for a particular day. While it is no indication of what the weather will be for your visit, you can get an idea of what it was like. I have found that checking weather sites it will show thunderstorms for the whole time I am interested in but if I check out past records I will find the rain only lasted a short time or was in the evening hours, etc.. Hope this helps!

We returned from Lautoka in the west of Viti Levu yesterday.
The wet season is now in full swing.
For the last couple of weeks there has been rain, sometimes heavy, on 2 days out of 3 in the late afternoon or evening and sometimes at night. The storms generally develop over the mountains inland.
We would not go out in the afternoon without taking our umbrellas, but it was rare for the weather to affect our activities.
It has been quite hot and sticky and the sun is shining most days. An a/c is a nice to have for sleeping.

It is generally cooler and drier in the Yasawas, so it does depend on exactly where you are.
A cyclone is always a remote possibility anywhere in the tropics in summer.

Cheers,
Peter
