Weather in Fiji and other IslandsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
I am considering visiting Fiji and Tahiti and possibly some other islands such as the Cook Islands. If I go it would be towards the end of Feb until the end of March possibly into April. I am aware that this period is not an ideal time to go regarding the weather, and I could delay the trip for better weather. However, I would be interested to hear from someone who has been in Feb and March : How was it? Should I delay my trip? THANKS
The rainy season, in most SP destinations isn't bad. Just a bit more rain than in the winter months. The potential problem you face is an extended+ period of bad weather. If you end up being in a stalled tropical depression or a typhoon it could ruin a lot of your holiday. It's a gamble. In six trips, of 30 days each, to the SP between December and March I've been in tropical depressions twice. Each lasted three to five days. I also left just prior to a typhoon once in Jan 2003. If you're OK losing 3-5 days cooped up out of the rain & wind I'd go for it. Otherwise a better time for the SP would be from May thru October. | 1
I think the worst weather in Fiji is in Jan ? | 2
hey :) Just came back from Fiji, it was awesome!! I was also worried about the bad weather... but if you do your research, as you are now... you can avoid it as much as possible... I visited the Yasawa islands - they don't get nearly as much rain, because there are no huge mountains the clouds would crush in. In two weeks, we had 1 cloudy day with 3 showers, that lasted 10 minutes in total (I didn't even leave the beach) :) The mainland however, does get rain and also because of the hot air lifting up, it does rain in the afternoons. I hope you'll have a great time :) | 3
