What can I do with 2 days in Nadi?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi All,

I have, unfortunately, only a 2-day/2-night stopover in Fiji - flying in and out of Nadi around 8am in the morning.

Ideally just looking for chill-out time - hammocks, nice beach, maybe some snorkeling.

Is it going to be feasible to get out to an island for this sort of time-frame? (I hear the Fijians are pretty laid-back about time, and I really don't want to miss my flight).
Is there anywhere close to Nadi that anyone could recommend that might be feasible for just 2 days?

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I think you should just spend those 2 nights in Nadi, and do a day-trip to the islands.

There are several on offer and you won't have any trouble finding out about them once in Nadi! ;-)

If you're desperate to spend a night on a smaller island, you could probably get to the Mamanucas the day you arrive, but you'd probably be just too late to catch the boat to the Yasawas.

Ditto to the above reply. Transportation to the Mamanucas will leave in the am hours - like 8-ish, so unless you arrive very early, you'll miss it. My flight did arrive at 2:30 am and I was on my way to the Yasawas that morning - so you can do it if you plan ahead. There is a big bus that goes around to all the hotels early in the morning and takes the slew of travelers to the boats - it's a well organized system. Make sure your hotel is on that loop, or you could take a taxi, which is cheap.

I did a one day trip on a sailboat, the Seapray, through the Mamanucas - through South Sea Cruises, from Nadi, hotel pickup around 7, full day on the water, included lunch, a village visit with kava (brief version), great snorkelling/swimming/wandering at the island where movie Castaway was filmed - a well spent day. Punctual timing from start to finish, back by 6-ish pm - so even if you have an evening flight, it's a pretty safe plan.

Look online at South Sea Cruises day tours at http://www.ssc.com.fj/ for day trip options.

I did not find Nadi a very interesting place to visit.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, its a big help! Will look at South Sea Cruises for a daytrip on our 2nd day.

Unfortunately we arrive at 8am on our first day, so I suspect by the time we find a hotel, etc it'll be too late for a day trip. Is there anywhere we can get to maybe by taxi from Nadi, say for an afternoon, rather than being stuck in town? ie any ok beaches near Nadi on the main island?

Thanks again...

Beaches near Nadi are horrible.
Better explore the attractions on dry land, for example go to Lautoka to see a real Fijian town without the tourists - easily accessible by frequent public buses from Nadi.
If you hire a car, you could eve hire attractions further away, like the gigantic sand dunes and the Tongan fort ruins around Sigatoka, or the Koroyanitu nature reserve in the mountins near Lautoka.

Ok, that's another great tip. Thanks Laszlo!!
