What can we bring?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'm hoping one of the locals can help with this (slightly odd) question... we're self-catering in Fiji for a week, coming from NZ. Its a while since we've done this, so I can't remember what we can bring into the country. Obviously I'm expecting that meat, dairy, veges and fruit are prohibited (and I remember where we can source those) but can we bring dry or canned goods from home? I'm not planning on bringing the whole supermarket, just a few favourite bits and pieces which might be hard to find. Thanks in advance!

According to the video shown on Air Pacific flights bound for Fiji, just about anything edible, including canned/bottled stuff is supposed to be banned. Ditto anything wooden or otherwise of plant origin.
In practice, I just got waved through by customs with all my carvings, etc brought from Vanuatu.

Basically, they seem to have copied the regulations of AU/NZ, but are more relaxed about enforcing them.

You would probably be allowed to bring in canned/dry food in practice after declaring them, but as Fijian supermarkets are pretty well-stocked with stuff imported from AU in particular, I see little reason to do so.

Even coming in to Australia, it is OK to bring cooked or canned food (but I don't think meat) as long as it is declared.
I regularly bring canned tuna and biscuits back from Solomon Islands. Friends have also brought cooked fish and cassava pudding - as long as the quarantine guys know what it is, it should be OK.
Fiji is not likely to be more fussy than Australia.
