where do we keep our 'valuables?"

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hiya,
When we're snorkeling in Fiji, where is a good place to keep our passports, credit cards, cash, camera? We're probably going to be staying at Leleuvia Island Resort, Caqalai Island Resort and smaller places like those.
Thanks

Those islands are such small, closed communities and with no way to get quickly off the islands, I'd say that the matter of theft is irrelevant. I always had most of my valuables with me in a daypack, and simply left it under a tree if I was out snorkelling. Sometimes I was spending time with other visitors on the island and maybe even with one or two of the resort staff -- it's very informal there. We weren't all in the water at the same time, so people not in the water could keep an eye on things -- against what sort of threat I do not know ..
I also followed my other standard security procedures, such as photocopies of documents, an emergency 'cash stash' tucked away in my pack, etc etc.

If you're worried, evaluate the situation for yourself once you're on site. You could always leave valuables at the reception.
