Where to go in fiji.

My wife and I are thinking of heading to Fiji for 10 days or so this July to escape the NZ winter. The problem we’re having is deciding where to go. We’re currently swaying towards the Mananucas as it appears to tick most of the boxes, but we’re open to other ideas. The Yasawas sound good but the one ferry a day, and 2/3 hour journey is putting us off.

Suppose I’d best tell you what we actually want from the trip. We’re planning more of a holiday rather than a backpacking trip, so don’t mind paying above average for accommodation. We don’t particularly want to travel that far and aren’t overly bothered about doing day trips every other day. Just somewhere that’s got a nice beach, warm sea water, a bit of diving and snorkeling close by a little bit going on in the evening for entertainment and cold beer! Gotta keep these things simple!

there are good local cruises for 7 nights which let you see a lot of the islands and country, small boats, about 70 passengers. I did a few when I lived in Fiji and enjoyed them. also from some parts of NZ you can also fly into Suva which opens up the east coast side of Fiji, and different to the west.

In the Mamanucas we would recommend Navini or Matamanoa Resorts for the kind of holiday you are looking for.
Navini has its own boat to pick you up from the mainland and it also takes you on free trips to other reefs to snorkel.
Both have good home reefs to snorkel from shore.

you cannot really go wrong with the mamanucas. we have done several holidays there. most recent was tropica resort which is adults only and I got some diving in. we also always found Denarau a very easy holiday, step off a plane and within 20/30 mins shuttle you are in your hotel, though beach isn;t the greatest

Where did you book?

We booked a place on Malolo Lailai island called Musket Cove Resort. We booked it with a free cancelation through Agoda so can always cancel if something better turns up. It does seem to tick all the boxes in terms of ease etc.
