Where to go in Fiji for the following activities?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello,

I would like to ask you for suggestion for my 3-4 weeks vacation. With so many islands I would like to narrow it down, with your help. We like to snorkel, swim, hike, cave, kayak. Prefer to be independent, do not care for bar scene.

Can you help me, where to go, please?

with 3 or 4 weeks in Fiji consider 4 or 5 days at Danny's - so much to do

looks nice, thank you!

i think on having been there about 10 times myself now that you may find 4 weeks a bit too long, great and relaxed and diverse as im sure you will find it, but you will love it im sure. enjoy!

A week each on Kadavu, Taveuni, Vanua Balavu.

4

thank you both.

what would be the highlightes of Kadavu, Taveuni, Vanua Balavu.?

With 3 or 4 weeks, you'll probably want to break it up and visit several islands and a few places on the main island.

As suggested in a previous post, Kadavu and Taveuni are both good stops with excellent snorkeling and hiking opportunities. A few more suggestions based on your interests:
1) A few days on Vanua Levu, near Savusavu town.
2) One off the resorts near Ovalau Island (Naigani Island or Cagilai Island, depending on budget)
3) Levuka town for one day
4) Nanannu-I-Ra island
4) Suva for one day (museum, Colo-i-Suva)

I recommend that you take at least one ferry ride between island instead of inter-island air flights the whole time.

The Lonely Planet and Moon books on Fijij both have a good overview of the highlights of each island, so I won't repeat that here.

With that amount of time you will easily be able to discover lots of places.

The Coral Coast is full of actiivities to see and do and because of its location you wont be reliant on tours or private transfers to get around.

Here are some ideas of what I do when I am there

wonderful suggestions, thank you!

Vanua Balavu was hit very hard by recent Cyclone Tomas. Apart from that it is very remote - last I heard the twice weekly plane service had been reduced to once weekly. But a very interesting place to visit.

any recommendation on the accommodation there Tai Marilyn?

We stayed at Moanas which was good - more like a family homestay - just out of 'town', accommodation was local style bure and you ate with the family in another small building. I have tried to find out if they are still operating and how much damage was sustained in the recent cyclone but have had no luck as yet. News items said the area was hard hit with many homes destroyed.
The plane service takes over an hour from Suva and is usually booked well in advance. Often subject to delays. The boat service is even more unreliable - when we were there it was 10 days late!
There was one other B & B type accommodation but again I have no idea if they are still operating.
