Where to stay in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi all,

Well we will be leaving to Fiji in 7 weeks and have sort of decided on where we would like to stay.
Ratukini on Mana Island looks and sounds beautiful, so does Leleuvia which is on the otherside of Vitu Levu.

Has anyone been to one or both of these places?
It looks like there is more to do from Ratukini than Leleuvia - just looking for personal comments really?

I love snorkelling - which would be better?

I heard that there was a fire at Mana Island Lodge which is right next door to Ratukini - just wondered how you think this is likely to affect our stay.

Maybe we could go to both and stay 3 nights at each, then maybe a further nights on the Coral Coast at the beach house?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

If you are mainly interested in just an island resort holiday, Mana is probably the better choice. Mana is a much larger island than Leleuvia. Leleuvia is very nice but also a very small resort island, you can walk around it in about 20 minutes.

I decided to go first to Ovalau for the hiking and for the historical town of Levuka. The small lagoon island of Leleuvia was just a bonus. If you're interested in a more varied experience of Fiji, then Ovalau/Leleuvia would be the better choice.

I know this is partly a matter of style. I personally would not want to waste any part of a shorty vacation traveling from one end of Viti Levu to another. If you chose Ovalau/Leleuvia there's more than enough there to keep you busy for a week.

If you chose Mana and still wanted to move around a bit, then go instead to an island in the Yasawas.
