which island

In a few weeks time, good freind and i will be going to Fiji. We are confused as to which island - or group of islands to choose. and then, which resort?
We have only one weeks holiday. We would like an island that is beautiful, and relaxing, but also that has a balance of a bit of life, and an opportunity to meet people, and have a few beers....we would like the opportunity to snorkel, dive, walk, kayak....and I NEED to see a couple of beautiful sunsets....
Can this balance be found on one island? On one resort? Or are we going to have to island hop, and get what we need from different islands?
We do not want an abundance of children, honeymooners or full on partying!
Can you help?

Would suggest Matamanoa Island Resort to meet all your requirements.

Not stayed at a large number of resorts in Fiji..4 to be exact. But of those 4, Octopus Resort suited us the most. West facing, so you will see sunsets. A few kids - it's family friendly - but not a hassle at all. Check out some of the other reviews.
If you go for this one, book soon. Accom fills up well in advance. (Not bad for word-of-mouth, and Google referrals. No other advertising used, according to the affable manager.)

I absolutely loved Robinson Crusoe Island... We stayed in the dorm, although I think there are private rooms available too. Amazing staff, fun activities, great sunsets, bonfires, dance shows, kava, etc etc. A bit basic (bucket showers, electricity runs on generators at night) but not uncomfortable. I spent 3 weeks in Fiji and the 4 days I spent here were the real highlight. Some of the islands farther out in the Yasawas have more striking beaches, but for a great atmosphere nothing beats Robinson Crusoe.

If you do check out the Yasawas, I would recommend Manta Ray Island Resort- great food, super clean dorms/bures, absolutely gorgeous beach, crystal clear water perfect for snorkeling etc.
