Hi I am planning a trip with my husband and I we are in our 40's we are taking my parents in their 70's they like to laze on the beach go for a little walk etc we like to snorkel fish swim and enjoy nice food we will also like to do some of the day tours. My mum has looked at travel brochures and has been looking at the resorts on the coral coast Hideway Shangri la Outrigger what are anyones thoughts on these? or do you have a favorite somewhere else Many hotels/resorts offer inclusive meal packages is this the best way to go? , are there restaurants around other than in the hotels??

I suggest you look at going to Yasawas area which will give all the above bar the day tours - and you could easily do those on the mainland either side of your island stay. If you want good snorkelling you will not find it on the Coral Coast. Look at the website for Octopus Resort (www.octopusresort.com). Snorkelling is very good, fishing trips possible, food excellent. We are in 60s age group now but have been going there many years. If you would like to see my photos PM me with your email address.

Yep I agree - forget the Coral coast - get out to an island

check out Octopus Resort which has a magic snorkelling reef about 10 foot off the beach, the food is resort style and it has western management which is good, theres a village over the hill side you can visit. No 1 is right, the Yasawas (or lower lying Mamanuca's are what you want, forget the mainland) enjoy!

Hi there
I agree with the previous posters. You have to leave the mainland to experience the true beauty and charm of Fiji. I have also had a lovely time at Octopus resort. It is very beautiful with lovely beach bures and great food, but my only concern is the distance from the mainland in the boat. I have the perfect place for you. Navini Island. We went there recently with 3 generations. The eldest being 70. The pluses for Navini are: they meet you at the airport and whisk you straight off to the island so there is no need to spend a night before and after your stay on the island in some shabby mainland hotel. It only takes about 35mins by boat to the resort. The food is great and as much as you want. It is a quiet place with lovely people and fantastic snorkelling right off the beach. If you want trips to the village etc everything is free. The drinks are very reasonable FJD$5 for a beer for example. We all just had a fantastic time there. Evenings are nice with guitar playing ang singing and games if you want to join in.Perfect.....wish I was back there...
