Woman travelling to Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

hello!

I'm planning to visit Fiji for 2 weeks. As i'm travelling alone I would like to get so informations about travelling between the islands for woman.
Is there any possibility of harrasment? Is it dangerous? How it is at night?

Any recomendations for good accomodation or tour?

Greta

Greta, you probably would not walk around your home town alone at night. The same caution would apply anywhere, including the towns in Fiji.
That said it is a safe place and the only reason you might get hassled is in Suva or Nadi because you are a tourist and they will want you to spend your money.

The Yasawa Flyer is the most common way to move between the Yasawa Islands.

Fiji is real safe. Not to worry. Just the usual protocol applies- single women in bigger towns should
walk with a friend or cab it after dark. To deflect unwanted male attention, wear a flower on the side of your hair that
indicates you're spoken for (Or wear a wedding band.) Fijians are inquisitive about your social situation
so be ready for questions coming from them that may seem intrusive. For them, it is normal. You will
run into questions as to why you are not travelling with your spouse/boyfriend. To them, family and fellow
villagers are what life is all about and they often don't understand why solo travellers do what they do. If
you do find yourself feeling uncomfortable in a situation, just find a nearby tourist and tell them you need
to borrow them for a moment to act as your travelling companion.

Dark city streets at night, especially near night clubs or pubs, should be your only concern.

During the day Fiji should be safe pretty much anywhere, barring the odd pickpocket trying his luck ion crowded places like city markets, maybe.

Unless you are in resorts, or very touristy areas, dress respectfully, which includes skirts that cover the knees. Short shorts look like an invitation.

Thanks for the posts.
No, I'm not going to walk alone at night :) but you never know.
