We 2 are travelling to the Yasawas in August. Would like comments about Otto and Fannies, Oarsmans Bay Lodge, and either Barefoot Lodge or Mantaray. Has anyone stayed at these budget acommodations recently. We prefer small, quiet, just want to sit, walk, swim, snorkel and eat good food (good food could be challenging from what we have read!) Do you prebook, or when you get there? It looks like the Yasawa Flyer has it all tied up if you don't book before hand. Thanks.
Otto and Fannies: great beach to side of resort, it's one of the more originals so (unless recently renovated) a bit tired looking than others, Oarsman was/is almost no more and is chalk and cheese compared to the ever popular Blue Lagoon Beach resort which shares the same magical beach, designed by international architects but has complaints about about food and upkeep, Mantaray is trying hard on the lodgings front but not quite there but the snorkelling striaght off the beach is world beating, and this time of year the Mantarays will be swimming the nearby trench. Haven't been to Barefoot but looks rustic but charming enough. | 1
also, it will still be busy season in august and you have enough time to book direct with the resorts, or via an agent soon. if you leave it last moment you should still be ok but risk last minute on-board boat bookings being sold out (usually only Blue Lagoon, and Octopus but other places can and do fill up as none of the places are very large in size). if you haven't paid up in advance they are all pretty flexible and unpreturbed if you change at short notice. You could just book, say, 2 nights at each place then extend when on the ground at each place which is what i mostly do. (PS my above comments related to food and upkeep of Oarsman (not Blue Lagoon)) | 2
