Yasawa Flyer & other transportation

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello-

I am booking 8 days in the Yasawas, split between Blue Lagoon Resort, Nanuya Resort, and Octopus. I understand that the Yasawa flyer is the only mode of transportation and that I will need to hop on and off to get to these various hotels. However I am curious about exploring some of the other islands that I will not be staying on - is there any other way to get around up there? Do people take day trips off to other islands where they are not staying? Are the islands close enough together that you could kayak to and from? Or do hotels have speed boats for hire, if you want to go exploring? Or maybe people just stay put on one island until they are ready to go on to the next (which they have pre-booked accommodations)? I have not been able to find any specific info about this online. Being an adventurer, it seems like if you're going to go all the way up there, you'd want to be able to explore almost all the islands....maybe this is not what people do??

Thank you for any info.

These are all pretty much get to and relax at kind of islands, you stay for a few days enjoy whats there then maybe head on to some other such as you are doing. they aren't real different from each other but unique nontheless. all will offer trips for a few hours to a local village and market, church service, snorkelling, cave tours, hiking etc as a way to show you around and make a few bucks for themselves, all at a relaxed fijian pace. you'll be pleasantly entertained! enjoy.

A- yes, most resorts will be able to take you to an nearby island, either on a tour or just for you. Ask at reception.

A- you Could kayak to adjoining islands if you are very keen. Some are closer than others. I havent seen boat hire except on the mainland

A- most do stay except on the tours organised by the resort
