Yasawas Money

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi everyone
Planning on seeing the Yasawas via the Bula Pass (or some variant thereof) in April. All the hostels there obviously have food included, so I'm not planning on taking much cash with me, apart from for kayaks or diving etc. However, I was wondering about the water situation. Are you pretty much tied in to buying it by the bottle from the resort? Is it extortionate? Is there any other way of getting water?
Thanks in advance, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have never been to a resort that did not offer free water.
Then again, you may choose not to drink it, in which case you will need to buy bottled water, but many have credit card facilities too.

Cheers,
Peter

It certainly depends on which resorts you are visiting. The two I am familiar with - Octopus and Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, both have free filtered water for drinking available at the bar.

Ah brilliant, thank you both, much appreciated.

Beware, the food at these resorts can cost FJ$90/AUS$55 and up at many of these resorts because there's nothing else around. That's expensive. But the real packpacker places are better at FJ$60/AUS$33. And the water's not treated, so be careful. Have a cab stop by a grocery or convenience store for lots of bottled water before you get on Flyer You don't want to get sick on the islands. There are no doctors around many of them.
