Your experiences at the Beachcomber?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
The Beachcomber seems to be a popular place in Fiji. How so? In what way? What kinds of things did you experience there that makes it stand out in some way?
the fact that its 10 times more expensive than anywhere else in the country? | 1
like all of Fiji tourism Beachcomber and seemingly all others are doing it tough due to GFC hangover and the military coup still in place so things are starting to look a little tired, Beachcomber has a new owner within the last few years so he may have spent a few bucks recently but i think he maybe hasn't?? Beachcomber promotes itself as a party island but comparitavily its pretty tame, they used to have a live band but cut it back, it used to be a bit quieter in the big dorm but last time i was there they weren't policing it like they once did so young backpackerers were keen to have drinks in the dorms before going down to the bar and didn't mind yupping on late at night for all to hear or getting lucky in a nearby bunk. Yikes, that never happened in its glory days and maybe im just too old for such now, that said like everywhere the staff are great , so are all the guests mostly and if you can afford it and want a bit of silence think about getitting a lodge room or burre/chalet, or ask if you can stay in the small dorm. | 2
