5 Hours in Guam

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Guam

Hi, Due to a change in my flight schedule I know have five hours and ten minutes between my flight from Majuro to Palau. Is immigration as chaotic as the rest of US? Is there anything to do in five hours apart from staying at the airport? It would be so nice to at least take a walk outside the airport. Will I have time to do this? I will go through immigration in San Francisco a week earlier but then of course exit to Marshall Islands before arriving in Guam. I have a EU passport. Thanks a lot for any information.

I haven't been outside the Guam airport, but I wanted to mention that when I was coming back from Palau in June, the line through security in Guam was very long (45 minutes, maybe), because of all the international flights coming through. So make sure you leave yourself plenty of time, especially if you are traveling Jan-March (which is peak travel season in Palau).

I hope you have a fabulous trip to Palau, I spent three weeks there and want to go back so badly! You might want to find my post from June.

Guam's tiny, of course you can take a walk outside the airport! The most interesting area for me was the south though, and you can drive from the airport around the south coast and back again in an hour or two, cant remember exactly. Much less developed, more mountainous and green than the hyper-developed airport area. Try asking a taxi how much they'll do it for.

But still have to go through security and all that formal stuff. I would think that if you were coming in the island hopper, unless you get in at the same time as other flights from the north, you might luck out since most people coming in on that flight will probably be local, so separate lines. You probably won't know for sure until you are there. You should be able to check your bags, or they will already be checked through to Palau.

If you have a EU passport and ESTA you don't need to fill out any forms. Not all passport staff are aware of this (this is US territory...) so fill in the I 94 just in case. After passport control you go to either transit or exit. If you want to leave the airport you will have to fill out a customs form. There are no public transport so get a map at visitor information. With it you can walk to K-Mart which takes about 20 minutes. From there you can buy an unlimited day ticket for 10$ and take a shuttle bus to Micronesia Mall. From there you take another shuttle to Tumon Bay using the same ticket.
