Guam alone on budget

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Guam

Hello,

I am a female traveler considering to go to Guam.
Is it safe and convenient for a woman traveler?
Is it possible to travel there on budget?
I have never been to any of the pacific islands and consider that since it's the closest island to Manila.

Thank you in advance for any info,
Yifat

It seemed fairly safe, even at Tumon Bay at night.

I wouldn't consider it a cheap budget destination for the Pacific, probably more in the middle range. But if you can get a cheap airfare, that is a big consideration of where to travel.

If you are in Manila, I'm sure there are lots of packages you can check out, as Guam is a popular spot from Manila.

Thank you Raro for your reply. Can you recommend on a place or area I can stay which is not a "honeymoon" area and where I can also get to know some local culture?

Guam is NOT the closest island- Palau is. Go to Palau. It is so much more lovely than Guam. The plane goes from Manila to Koror to Yap to Guam. Either Koror or Yap is nicer than Guam.

Well, I stayed with a national softball team at an old US army base for a week, and then moved into a place near town (Hagatna) called the Plumeria Inn. If you have a car it's in a good central location. Not sure it's a place to meet locals, though. There is a weekly evening market/barbecue in the middle of town, near the baseball stadium, that was a lot of fun.

Definitely go to Palau or Yap. Guam is ok, and if you decide to stay there, go to Saipan.....explore lost and hidden Tinian and Rota....
