Guam suggestions?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Guam

Hello ,
I am thinking of taking my 82 yr old Grandmother for a 3 night package from Japan to Guam in March.
Does anyone know what the weather would be like ??
What resort would be best?
Hilton??
Regards and thanks....

The weather will be hot and humid- it is all year round. It may rain some, but the resorts are set up for it- and the rain is almost never even chilly. We always stayed at the Hyatt- I don't think there is a lot of difference so chose your own favorite. Nice of you to take Grannie on a trip like this- have a great time.

Hi-I am brand new to this website. I joined because my husband and I are going to Guam at the end of this month for a week. My husband will be working most of each day at a middle school in Dededo (sp?), and I will be left mostly on my own. I plan to relax, swim in the pool, go to the beach, snorkle, etc. This is the first out of the country trip for both of us. I have a crazy question...my husband would like to bring some "gifts" for the educators he will be working with on Guam. He doesn't have any idea what...he thought of some jars of artichoke hearts, or something that they would like that they cannot readily get on Guam. Can anyone give us any suggestions or advice???

Also, I welcome any suggestions or knowledge from people who have been there before. I have no clue what to expect. Just found out we will be staying at the Marriott Hotel & Spa Tumon. I would be happy to get any feedback anyone can give me...

Not a crazy question at all- a lovely thought. I don't really have any ideas (I am more helpful with Palau and the other islands), but hopefully someone will come up with one. Welcome and hope you have a great time- bring lots of suntan block for yourself. It will be hot and humid, of course. The hotels around Tumon are quite nice. Island dress is generally pretty low key- your husband should be prepared with very light weight jackets if he will be wearing them- I had friends go out to work for a week and felt that they needed to wear the traditional suit and tie- I think they lasted 2 days before adopting the hawaiian type shirt over light weight pants. Even for dinner people don't get overly dressed up, but there are folks around here who are more familiar with Guam who will most likely turn up and give you some ideas. If you can, you should try to stop at one of the other small islands on the way back- take the island hopper and stop in Kosrea for a real out of the way few days. But whatever you do- enjoy.

Hi,
I only went as a tourist and I loved Guam it's tropical paradise with a urban feel for an island I have been to Saipan , I think Guam is nicier as it has a few more shopping places like the Mirconesian Mall and KMart not being American it was alot of fun to buy goods I couldn't buy from home. The price is expensive on the island as it's 80 to 90% Japanese tourist on package tours I live in Japan and got a great deal especially with the free shopping trolley passes those are the buses you see with tourist hanging out of them being shipped back and forth between resort hotels and shopping locations. Tumon Bay is the tourist strip and the Marriott is on a nice beach with pool you will be happy! I had rain and more rain for the whole 4 days I was there... but that was unsually they had a storm set in. The ocean is incredible so aqua blue and calm you will surely be in paradise while your husband works, lots of snorklers out there too.
Enjoy yourself alot I think in Guam you can get anything from the mainland of the US so I don't know what would go down well with the Charromoro people by the way they are really delightful and the kindess people.

Fantasea Charters: Traveling to Guam can get costly. Looking for good deals is part of the fun on any vacation. A great inexpensive family fun excursion whos memory will last a life time is a boat ride and fishing off the beautiful southern part of Guam in the Villiage of Agat. A favorite for many local families is Fantasea Charters. This very stable 40' catamaran hold up to 49 passengers and carry-on food and drinks are allowed. The southern part of Guam is the most beautiful and the secenry is fantastic. They offer trips for tourist with hotel pick up available or walk aboard, local, and military discounts and can be reach at 1 671 727-6612 or www.fishingguam.com Private charters are also available.
