weekend in guam

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Guam

hi!
im 36 years old and will go to guam over the weekend 14-17 dec, with my 11years old son. Wondering where and how we can enjoy our two night stay in guam and be able to see and shop with a cheap budget.

how long and how do we go to onward park?
is it safe for me and my son to walk around tumon?
any suggestion on where we could both enjoy our weekend together?
thanks a lot

Tumon Bay is not that bad, at least until midnight, even then it's just a bunch of hustlers trying to separate you from your money, some prostitutes, etc. So, you should be fine be fore then.

there is a weekly market near the baseball stadium in town, in the afternoon/evening, but I think it is the middle of the week so you might miss it.

You might as well stay in Tumon Bay, just get a decent moderate place. I stayed in town, at a motel, forget the name. but you should consider a rental car, lots of beatuiful places outside the main areas.

Thank you very much Raro. that's a very helpful tip. How can you describe Fiesta Resort? My Son is very much excited about the onward park and the grand prix park, would you or anyone give us tips on how to get there. I would love to see those beautiful places outside the main areas. but i dont want to drive and wonder in a strange place because we might end up lost. Do you know a cheap tour? thanks a lot.

i will really appreciate your advice. we are leaving tomorrow night for guam already. thanks again. happy holidays

Don't know that place, but it is worth a try. Your hotel can arrange tours to most places on the island. It's actually hard to get lost, just a few main roads.

It's a pretty developed island, so don;t worry about too much. I think the Japanese see it as those here in the US see Hawaii.

Hello Raro! You're right... guam is like a smaller version of Hawaii. We enjoyed our stay at Fiesta Resort ( formerly Dai Ichi Hotel - i didnt know that). I like the location of 'fiesta resort being in the center along tumon chain of hotels. The people are extra ordinarily nice and respectful and im pleased to my surprise that not only filipinos speaks tagalog but even locals and foreigners who are residing there consider it their third if not second language. I like the duty free shop and premier outlet. I was a bit disappointed with K Mart having read as the biggest K-mart. I find it very small compared to the K-marts i;ve been in the US. But they do really have great deal and of course considering that they are the only store who's open 24/7. Another that made me sigh is the Underworld aquarium... i wasnt expecting to be just a tubewalkway. But as i planned i was able to go to two lovers point, shopping malls, aquarium, watch the chamoran dance. Too bad i missed the chance to go to talafofo falls and grand prix. though i was told by one local of a certain place called tarzan falls which according to him is a much interesting and beautiful place than the talafofo.

But to sum it all... we had a great time even if we had sunburn.
Thank you very much. Your tips and info really gave me an idea as to what to expect. May you continue to help first time traveller like me to guam. I will surely come back to have a longer and relaxing stay. Happy Holidays!

You're very welcome! It's responses like yours, from travelers after their trips, that make most regulars continue to provide replies (even on this horrible TT4!!).
Have a good holiday season over the New Year.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. My wife and I are planning a vacation for a few days (about 3 nights) in Guam. We are coming from Japan. I checked the tours and they seem quite expensive. Are there any local tours for a fraction of the price? What are some reccomendations for Guam? It's my first time there, and I get a sense that it's kind of like Hawaii that is closer to Japan. Any good, but not so expensive hotels there around the $80-100 range?

Thanks

Lots of choices at Tumon Bay. The Plumeria Inn, if it's still open, is near the main town, but you'll need a car to get to see a lot on Guam.

There is actually lots to do and see here depending on what you want to do. Guam has many beautiful dive sites around the island and can be easily arranged. You can even just pick up an island map and cruise the island on your own. The island map highlights all the tourist spots and must see areas on Guam. You will denitely need a car to get around. If shopping is your pleasure, Guam is home to many luxury goods stores that all offer duty free prices. If you'd rather go snorkeling or diving Guam's beaches are great for all of that.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to go to Guam most probably the week after Thanksgiving sometime around the 21st to the 28th. My schedule is not final yet and I'll only have around around 3 days max to spend there.

I'll be going with my sister. She is planning to shop and as for me, I'm planning to hit the beaches and try to dive on my only chance on the 1st day when I arrive. (if I'll just be there for 2-3 days)

Any tips on where to go or what else to do when I'm there?

I don't have any time to go to Saipan, Palau or Yap Island since I need to get back to work.
(maybe next year if I can get away from work again)

Best Regards,
wanderer
