Getting to Kiribati from Northern Asia, cannot find any flights.Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Kiribati
I have been searching for flights, but even travelocity cannot find flights for me. I will be leaving from Taiwan and traveling to Kiribati and then back. I know for sure I would have to transist somewhere, but so far I cannot find any flights at all even for transit spots... Any ideas?
Our Airline (formerly Air Nauru) offers a once a week flight from Brisbane, Australia to Tarawa, Kiribati, via Honiara (Solomon Islands) and Nauru. Schedule here | 1
Hi well thati s good to know but it doesn't really help. If I want to fly all the way to Austrialia or Fiji then I would just visit those places. I want a shorter transfer is one exists. Otherwise it is too troublesome to go. | 2
Bonriki is the only international airport and is served by Air Pacific and Our Airline-if those don't work out you're left chasing after theoretical routes as proposed by Coralsun Airways. | 3
You must accept that you will have to go through other places. | 4
You have any experience on Air Pacific's Bula Pass that allows you to fly between Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Solomons, Vanuatu and Kiribati? Apparently Fiji seems an excellent "base" for visiting several other islands, like the obscure Tuvalu (unfortunately not on the Bula Pass list at the moment.) | 5
I realize this is of no help to the original poster (I only found out about the sailing yesterday, and first saw the TT posting today), but for future reference (or if someone wants to try for the return trip from Kiribati to Honiara -- but remember the onward/return ticket requirement for entry): the MV Ortega (small freighter that, presumably, takes passengers) is scheduled to sail from Honiara, Guadalcanal Island, Solomon Islands, for a trip to Kiribati tomorrow, July 2, 2010, and return on July 16th. According to the announcement, the round trip fare is SI$2,500 (US$333); SI$3,000 with meals (US$400). This may be a one-time event, but there might also be other similar trips from here or elsewhere among the islands. I wonder if there's somplace -- other than Thorn Tree -- to find out information like this? | 6
Thanks all for your replies. Sorry for my absence from this question, what you all have said is what I have also been finding out. A little disappointing, but it is the way it is, so for now will not be going. But it is nice to know, thank you. JoeToo, also interesting information. Thanks. | 7
I think there are occasional freighters from Honiara to Kiribati, as the Solomons representatives travelled there for an arts fesival a few years ago that way. There is a significant group of people of Kiribati origin living in Solomon Islands, having been moved there by the British in the 1950s due to overcrowding. | 8
Air Pacific goes from Hong Kong to Nadi. | 9
