Kiribati not in LP?

Am I overlooking something, or is Kiribati not covered in any of the current issues of the Lonely Planet guidebooks? Was it allways like this? Not that I'm afraid of getting lost there. Just wondering...

Along with the rest of Micronesia, Kiribati was in the previous edition but has been dropped for good because "global travel patterns no longer justify covering these destinations" as a LP person has told us here.

I suggest that you get the last existing edition of LP's old Micronesia guide, or the Moon guide to Micronesia for detail on Kiribati, then combine them with practical info from the net.

It seems a bit arbitrary though. Why Tuvalu, Niue, etc., and why not Kiribati?

Or Pitcairn or Wallis & Futuna?

Surely Palau or Guam get more visitors than those... but it's LP's decision.

You might want to check out your public library(if you are near one) for an old copy of LP Mircronesia. I was lucky enough to pick up a copy on the discard shelf for a dollar.

So Lonely Planet is just for the parts of the World which are only not so lonely!
