nuclear waste?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Marshall Islands

Hello,
My daughter is considering living and teaching in the Marshall Islands for a year. I've read that the islands are the most nuclearly contaminated islands in the world. How safe is it there? What provisions have been made to safeguard the population? Thanks you much for your input.
Eric

Don't know whether you have had any responses to your post but I would say that it depends what part of the Marshall Islands your daughter was considering going to. Bikini atoll is still not habitable, and I suspect other nearby islands might also be best avoided. But the Marshalls cover a vast area and there appears to be absolutely no problem, for instance, here in Majuro where we are currently staying. Indeed, as small Pacific Islands go, the place has lots to recommend it.
