Hi all, I am planning on spending a couple of weeks travelling FSM this summer and am finding that any attempts to book or plan are met by a great lack of available information. I am aware that United are the only airline that travel and am preparing myself for the large dent that those flights will create but was looking for any advice on which order it is easiest to fly to the islands in (from Guam), are there specific days they flights go (united website is being very unhelpful) and does anyone have any top tips for destinations not to miss. Thanks in advance!
Guam-Chuuk-Pohnpei-Kosrae. If you want to visit Yap, you would need to make it as a side trip from Guam. If you tick the flexible dates box on the booking feature of the web of United, you shouldn't have problems to see when there are flights for each of the routes. | 1
Two comments. First, consider doing a Guam-Yap-Palau loop within your plans. While Palau is not a part of FSM, it is worth seeing and Yap can be done as a free stopover for that flight. If you do a search for the Micronesia "Island hopper", you might find better information on the dates. Second, consider cutting Chuuk unless you are wreck diver. Ever account I hear from travelers who go there references that the locals are violent towards outsiders and that one should stay at closed-off resort or on a live-aboard. (note: please comment if you have contrary experience, as this is based on other travelers' experiences and not my own). | 2
Thus it has always been in Chuuk. It is not an easy place to visit and can be missed unless you are a wreck diver, in which case it should not be missed. Haven't been there in quite some time but have read no reports suggesting that it has changed a lot. Don't know where you are starting from but Tilos has the flights pretty much in order for you and I agree- add Palau to your trip. If you are starting from the states, do the island hopper from Honolulu and you might consider continuing on to Manila as that is often the least expensive way to make the trip. Worth checking anyway and it means no backtracking. You can reach Guam by several airlines including Delta. You can also fly directly into Palau from Taipei and Narita. But once you are in the islands it is AirMike- United/Continental. | 3
