Budget Accommodation Chuuk/PohnpeiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Micronesia, Federated States of
Hey guys, I'm hoping someone might be able to provide me some information about budget accommodation options either in Pohnpei or Chuuk. I have a free stopover I could use to spend a week in either Chuuk or Pohnpei in early January, but as a budget traveler, there's no way I can afford the typical hotel prices there. I was wondering if anyone has any experience either camping or finding some sort of budget accommodation option (homestay or something?). Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated. I need to decide relatively soon whether to take the free stopover or pass it up. Thanks!
The only reason to go to Chuuk is to scuba dive the shipwrecks. Two expensive dive resorts. It is not to safe to be on the streets at night, locals not too friendly at times. there is a cheaper hotel just outside Blue Lagoon dive resort, but not as safe. | 1
Hi CanadianEastCoaster, have you visited Chuuk eventually? | 2
Yes , I stayed at "Blue Lagoon" as I was there for scuba diving,,,I think it was around $125. per day for room only. I think it is the best place because of the grounds around it & diving operation. | 3
Pohnpei much friendlier place and more to see and enjoy there, than Chuuk which can be an unfriendly place at night on street | 4
Thanks diverfitz. | 5 | |
