How do I get from Yap to the Outer Islands (Woleai Island)?

I have 3 full days in Yap and I would love to see traditional culture that I know can be found in the outer islands. Can anyone recommend a flight that goes to Woleai Island? If possible I would like to stay in a village for a night and get a feeling for traditional life in Yap.

Not easy to do and really depends on timing. There is a field ship which goes periodically (once a month or every several months) and there are also the missionary flights. There was a room you could stay in on Woleai but it was arranged for me so I have no idea how one would go about figuring it out. I'm not sure that with 3 days it would be possible as I am not sure how much you could arrange before getting there. It is quite a wonderful trip however, and if you have time to arrange it I think worth doing. There were NO tourists there when we were there. Unfortunately there was also a tropical upset so we couldn't get around at all.

For what it is worth, there are villages of outer islanders on Yap Proper, so even if you don't get out to the outer islands you will certainly see them.
