PIcking Up Duty Free Going to Chuuk from Houston

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Micronesia, Federated States of

Fellow Travelers,
I'll be flying into Chuuk on United Airlines in May. I depart the mainland USA from Houston and I have a "layover" in Honolulu, but this is not a true flight change; just a change of planes. This “layover” is just over an hour. I then go to Guam for a true flight change and short layover prior to flying to Chuuk.

I'm guessing that if I were to pick up duty free alcohol in Houston or Honolulu, there would be required that I would put it into checked luggage prior to Guam (or maybe even that is not allowed). So, on this itinerary, am I forced to pick up duty free in Guam? If so, how good/bad are the duty free shop(s) in Guam in terms of variety and price?

If Ii don’t get duty free prior to arrival, what are the options for wine, spirits and beer once on Chuuk. I will be staying at the Truk Stop Hotel near Weno so is there a store that sells Australian wines for reasonable prices? How about Rum?

Thanks!
