Nauru - breakfast, driver & misc

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Nauru

Due to change of flight schedule by Our Airline, I have suddenly found myself ended up a day trip instead of a 3 day trip to Nauru. I will be arriving at Nauru at 4:35am from Honiara and leaving Nauru again at 18:15 the same day. Due to my complicated onward flight connections, I am not going to change my other flights in order to spend more days in Nauru. I guess 14 hours might just be enough to see Nauru. I have a few questions:

  • where should I go at 4:35am? I am reluctant to book a hotel room just to sleep for a few hours. Is there somewhere I can go to wait for breakfast to be sold? A cafe or restaurant in downtown Aiwo area? Or should I head for Menen Hotel to see if they serve breakfast to non-guests?

  • I heard there is no public transport in Nauru. Is there a driver I can hire for a few hours' sightseeing?

Thanks for any advice.

Unfortunately can't give answers but would like to ask a Q:

Do you need a visa for a Nauru stopover if flying Our Airline, and if so, do they help to get it or do you have to arrange it yourself?

The airline says it's okay so long as you have a return ticket and a hotel confirmation. That could mean either no visa is required or visa is available on arrival - they are not clear about this.

For my case, since it's a day trip, they told me no hotel booking is required.

Sounds good.
And one full day should be enough to see Nauru.

Hi there...

I will travel to Nauru end of June and I have your same air schedule. Arrival e departure on the same day!

When you wil go in Nauru? I'm planning to rent a car to visit the island, if you will be there the same day we could share the car cost.

Do you already have a visa for Nauru? I'm still waiting for that!

bye
Luka

Hi Luka,

I will be there on 21 June. How about you? Yes, would be great if we can share the car cost. I heard it's not easy finding a spare car but that supermarket at the north of the island may have it. Can't recall name. Now travelling around China - my Pacific materials not with me.

I am still waiting for my visa authorisation letter too. I also heard that if one has confirmed air tickets for a day trip, visa is available on arrival. I have heard so many versions of the rules that I am not sure which is the correct one...

Where else are you travelling on this trip? I am doing PNG, Solomon, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna, Fiji, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Samoa, Am Samoa, Tonga and Cook Islands.

Hi,

unfortunately day will be not the same as I'll go in Nauru one week later.

I will visit Solomons and Kiribati too. Tarawa on 5ht july and Kiritimati on 7th july.

At Nauru consulate is not true that in five days you have a visa. I'm waiting for a month although is true I will leave next month!

Have a nice trip!
