Visa and invitation for Nauru

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Nauru

Hi dear travelers,

I´ve been trying since a while to visit Nauru but have been told that I need an invitation from somebody who lives there. Can anybody tell me if this is correct? I dont know anybody there and don´t get further with the visa issue.

Would be happy to hear from somebody who has been there already and who can give me some helpul infos plleeaassseee. thank you!!! :)

You shouldn't need an invitation from someone who lives there.

You may need a hotel booking from Menen Hotel or another hotel on the island. I booked via email with menen.

You arrange the visa through the Nauru consulate in Brisbane, you should be able to reach them by email.

1

I did not need one when I was there. However, there is not much there to see to be honest.

2

Which is your nationality? Nauru's visa application form says that you need an invitation if you are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, not if you have any other nationality.

3

I am an American. It was not an issue.

4

thanks so much for your reply guys.
Travelthefire: did you need no hotel booking when you were there? how did you get your visa?
wittli: im from germany. did you not need a hotel booking to show for your visa?

how did you guys get your visa? when have you guys been there? maybe the rule changed?!?

im so grateful for every advice! cheers

5

I dont remember needing a visa. However, as a US citizen, we normally dont in the Pacific.

6

thanks for your quick reply! as a german citizen we usually dont need as well for all pacific islands a visa except Nauru :-( and i dont know how to get it without an inviation or hotel reservation... its so complicated for nauru...

As I am halfway through the process of getting a visa for Nauru I might just share my experiences
The embassy in Brisbane is not involved anymore in the visa process, you have to contact them at visa@naurugov.nr now directly. They will send you the application form and an information sheet. The application form mentions weird things like criminal records and health certificates but after asking back I was told I should disregard that. In the end it breaks down that you need to send them a copy of your passport, the signed application form, flight bookings (can be done online at Nauru Airlines), the hotel reservation and proof of your employment. As I am currently not working I was told that I could disregard the last point.
I travel on a German passport. The application form says that if you are an Australian/New Zealand citizen you would need a letter of invitation. Can't say if they are serious about that.
There are now four hotels in Nauru (there have been more than two for quite some time but all sorts of people kept repeating the two hotel story). Contact details are in the information sheet. The e-mail for the Budapest hotel was wrong but if you google beyond the first page of results for it you can actually book it online. Seems to be the most expensive at 220 AUD. The Menen and Ewa Lodge replied quickly and both had space and were 160 AUD. From Od'n Aiwa I got a reply indicating another e-mail adress (odnaiwohotel@gmail.com) but I haven't heard back from them. Tried to call them but could not get a connection. Because of that I settled for Ewa Lodge despite the high price.
After you have sent all the relevant documents you will be issued an invoice (that is the stage I am at now) and have to transfer 50 AUD to the Nauru government. Still need to figure out how to do that from lovely Samoa but there will be a way.
After sending them proof of payment they should issue you a visa confirmation letter and with that you can board the plane.
They have been responsive to me but you should give the process a few weeks with the different steps involved. I hopefully will be there in two weeks time.
Happy travelling
Wittli

Just to follow up with my experiences getting the visa for Nauru. Western Union eventually transferred 50 AUD to Nauru's Immigration account (at a cost of 20something AUD) and after emailing the recipt I finally received my visa confirmation letter. I had to show this letter while checking in for the flight to Nauru.
At Nauru airport I had to show that letter again which prompted the lady to place a big visa stamp in my passport. She filled in the details and I was free to roam the streets of Nauru.
Just a sidenote, the visa is valid for a month and during that time allows multiple entries. If you have a complicated schedule you could actually come back to Nauru.
All in all the process is more complicated as necessary but possible to navigate sucessfully.

Hi wittli
Thanks for the report, very useful.
How long did the process take???
thanks

Pablo

10

With all the back and forth via e-mail it took about 10 days.
Happy applying Pablo!

11

do you have the mail for do the visa, i send all documents to visa@naurugov.nr and i didnt have a reply...
thanks

12

I don't know any other adress, try to contact any available Nauru embassy or whatever and try to find out the correct adress. How long did you wait for a reply, maybe they just need a few days.

13

Ok thanks i send my application and all documents 3 weeks ago and no news. I already contact 2 embassy and they say to send this application to this mail... I waiting some days more and tried to make a call to nauru immigration..
Thanks anyway

14

Maybe write them a new email? Maybe they somehow oversaw your message. You have reason to believe that the adress is correct...

15

Yes i ll tried, how long it took to answer your mail ??

16

In my case, the answers came fairly quickly. In the last email though, I was told to send things as soon as possible and it sounded to me as someone was going on holiday and I would either get a prompt answer if I send things promptly or would have to wait. Maybe you have hit the holiday period.

Other thought, I assume you have a hotel reservation by now, ask them if they know what is going on.

17

Today I receive the reply after my phone call to the office. I just waiting now the verification of all documents and the visa..
Will se what happens

Hi Chuxy, I bought tickets to Nauru for first few days of Sep, looking to get the visa and haven't received reply from the email shared. I've now followed up with emails to Rajeev on this page: Nauru gov visa

Could you kindly share the number you used to successfully call the office? Did you need a hotel reservation beforehand? I am contemplating an airbnb option.

Thanks for your help!

19

Hi you should wait at least 15 days for the reply of the Nauru Immigration . If you don’t have a reply call to the number that you see in the page that of Nauru Governement.
I think is better a hotel confirmation instead a airbnd but not sure.
Good luck
