Accommodation in Ile des Pins

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Is there a budget accommodation option on Ile de Pins? I could only find camping sites.

Also needed some recommendations on the Pirogue tour.

Thanks

When we went there we camped at Oure/chez christine and nataiwatch in the kuto area. it is actually a luxury camping in terms of that your camping on white sand beach, has good toilets/wash rooms, showers. im not sure how you define "budget accomodation" (>$50>$100?> $500? for ex.) but chez christine or oure also offers decent bungalows at $37 (10 yrs ago, Im sure its more now).

Around Oameno, we stayed at relais kodjeau (something like that) as they were the only option up north during that time. you can choose either the studio (more reasonable $) or the beach bungalow (more pricey $$$$).

our favorite sailing tour was around baie d'oro followed by islets just in front of baie des crabes. have fun there.

We stayed at Kuberka Gite, which was one of the cheaper places to stay. If you check out the Air Caledonie web site there is a run down of some of the accommodations on Ile de Pins with prices. It also will tell you how much transportation to and from the airport is, as well as meal costs. There are not a lot of restaurants to choose from, most are attached to accommodations. We booked our pirogue tour through Kuberka and we were picked up there - definitely worth the cost!

There are at least 7 non-camping options - Gites, Relais, 5star places etc. Ive stayed at Relais Koudjoue and Gite Manamaky (now closed)

The pirogue tour is well worth while and goes from the bay near the village of Vao to the forest near the wonderful Piscine - one of the highlights of the island.
