Anyone walked the “Grande Randonnée” N°1 track recently?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Hello there. I was hoping someone could give me some advice on doing the “Grande Randonnée” N°1 track in the Parc de la Rivière Bleue, New Caledonia. We are experienced trampers (walkers / hikers) and would like to do a few days of the walk in August. Do you need to take a tent (or are the huts on the track accommodation?). If so, does anyone in Noumea hire out tents? Is it possible to get public transport or a shuttle to the start of the track? If we did just two days of it is it possible to walk out – or are their only certain parts of the track with road access. What is the night time temp like in August (ie would we need warm clothes?) And finally is it possible to get maps in English? I have found a very useful site - but the map is in French and it doesn't seem to have been updated in a while.

Thanks so much
