ATMs in Ile des Pines, New Caledonia

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

I'm flying kind of direct from Sydney to Ile des Pines, arriving on a Saturday in the evening, and staying at a hotel near-ish to the airport. What is the availability of ATMs like? Googling, I find everything from 'there are plenty of ATMs in New Caledonia' to 'there's only one on the island, in Vao' and 'only open during normal business hours'.

If ATMs are hard to come by on the island, what is their availability like at the airports in Noumea? We'll be travelling through both of them on the way to island. Can we reliably expect an ATM to be working at the domestic airport (where we'll spend most time) on a Saturday afternoon?

Thanks in advance,
David.

As far as I know there are at least 3 ATM's on the island, mainly in the Vao area, don't know what the access is like. There is also one at the domestic Magenta Airport. We changed travelers cheques instead of using the ATM's, sorry I can't be of any more help.

There are ATM's at the international airport. On the Isle of Pines we booked up trips, bike hire and food at the accommodation and paid one bill by visa at the end. There wasn't much need for cash as when the cruise ships aren't there, there isn't much to buy. We just had cash to buy drinks and bits and pieces at the local shops.
