Climbing Mount Humboldt

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Hi,

I'll be in New Caledonia on May 21st for 3 weeks. I intend on climbing Mount Humboldt (1618m)
during the second week after May 28. The highest peak I've done is Mount Warning
in NSW Australia which is just under 1200m I think. I'm not a mountaineer but a keen walker and
nature-lover. I have an interest in New Cal's native vegetation and Humboldt has many interesting
plant communities. It's a pretty high mountain and I'm not going to risk going it alone, so if any one's
keen to join me I'd be very happy to hear from you!

A bientot.

Are you talking of what they call Mount Panie out there?
NC's highest peak?

If so, you can find info on climbing it on my Mount Panie page - be sure to click around on the links under the intro text, as they contain most of the info. It is not really a risky climb and I found it easy enough alone, with the only possible danger being getting lost if you are not used to navigating unmarked trails. Remember that 1600 m in the tropics doesn't count as really high - still warmish and well-vegetated.
And it is definitely a fantastic climb, one of NC's highlights.
Very rewarding for both flora and fauna.
