Le Surf Hotel, Noumea

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Currently in Sydney we have a great half price special to New Caledonia that we are thinking of taking up, but the meal package is very expensive.

What is the area like around the Le Surf Hotel for little cafes, restaurant or supermarkets so that we could either eat out or self cater?

We don't mind travelling by local bus to something that would be close by.

thanks

Sandiefran

Im glad to hear that this hotel has reopened.

It is well located on Anse Vata and virtually backs on to Baie des Citrones. Accordingly there are many food options nearby, from cafes restaurants and takeaways to a small grocery store (bit like a 7-11). Also you should stock the bar fridge with drimks and breakfast stuff. Lunches can be a 12inch baguette from a sandwich shop.

Note that restaurants in Noumea are not cheap , but they tend not to be overly pricey, I think- being similarly priced to Australian restaurants.

Tell us about the deal that you got.

Hi Mandja

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The current deal is until 16 July for travel 1-31 August and 1-31 October is "1-2-FREE Sale".

1. Half price airfares - probably you'd have to get to Sydney for this.

2. Half price accommodation, half price airport transfer.

FREE Buy one get one free - a few things here.

Look at www.newcaledoniaholidays.com.au or www.NewCaledonia.com.au, your travel agent or phone 1300 886 363

Starting prices are $645 twin share for 3 nights at Le Surf - we are looking at the 4 night deal through Talpacific.

Thanks.

Sandie, when I was last at that hotel, they had a deal where you got a free drink voucher, free casino coupon and water sport voucher BUT you had to ask for it, otherwise they didnt give it to you. (dunno why)

I too have seen this deal on offer. There are other hotels besides Le Surf to look at as part of the deal. I saw Ramada, which is supposed to be the newest hotel in Noumea.Costs a bit more though. It has a poor web site that does not show many pics,or interiors. On close checking of the deal, the "extras" thrown into the deal don't amount to much considering that NC is already way too expensive over some Asian destinations,
But I am going there as I no longer feel secure or happy about going to Bali. ( I used to love the place)While ever Australians can go to a country and face a death penalty without our Government doing much to rescue its citizens, then I do not want to put any $ into their economy.
This may be too political for this forum, but if Australia has an SAS arm in its military,it should be using them to rescue it citizens from the hands of the evil killer Governments. I am sure they would soon mobilise their Defence Forces to mount a rescue if they were held hostage by terrorists.
Any way, I am looking forward to a break in Noumea and kicking back in the French way. I just hope my limited French will be enough.
It will be interesting to compare with Bali and Thailand
