We are travelling to NC in June, spending a few nights on Lifou. There seems to be very little information available on the internet regarding accommodation and services on Lifou. We are mainly curious to know about the airport transfers. We arrive by air around lunch time, will there be taxis available at that time or is it best to book an airport transfer with our hotel (it is $70 each, one-way).

No, there won't be any taxis available. Where are you staying? Was $70 quoted by the hotel or by your travel agent?
We've just returned from 2 weeks on Lifou (our 6th visit), stayed at Drehu Village, I think we paid about $30each for our transfers.
