long term accommodation

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

i am looking to relocate to new caledonia for 2 years and can't seem to find any info on the web about long-stays such as accommodation to rent for long-term and also local clubs and sport things to join to get to know people, gyms etc.. If anyone could point me in the direction of web-pages to look at that would be great. Thanks.

Found this interesting blog about living in New Caledonia.

Id be inclined to , in the first instance, go via the local tourist office. Their website has lots of good info incl re working in Noumea. Visit this site.

The site also has some info on some sports (windsurfing, golf etc) and things relevant to long term stayers eg driving, mobile phones etc

Finally, here's a big list of sport and other clubs, but note the translation as the page was originally in French.big list

hi,

Your first stop should be to get onto www.lagoon.nc. It is the Web page for all things re: New Caledonia.

Next look at Les Nouvelles Caledoniens which is the national daily newspaper. You can access it from the lagoon website. Les petits annonces has a multitude of rentals. That paper also has information re: sporting clubs etc.

Hi - When do you think you will arrive in New Caledonia? And how is your French? I agree with all of the people who have replied here. Good stuff. If you read French, the local newspaper "Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes" will help you a bit with jobs and accommodation. You might have to go with an agency to find a flat and some may have online websites (though New Caledonia is slow to pick up on the web). My little blog on life in New Caledonia, Sojourn in the South Pacific, may be of some help: use the search function for topics you are interested in. And if I can help with any specifics, drop me a line. GOOD LUCK!
