Low-key / hassle-free / hawkers ?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Hi! I am unsure how to phrase my question (and English is not my first language). I have been travelling in countries that I consider fairly intense when it comes to pushy vendors, street hawkers, people frequently trying to rip off the tourists, etc. I am not being judgemental about it and even then I have overall positive memories of travelling in those countries. However I am now looking for a relax destination with low level of sollicitation from people and low-key locals...
Among others I've been in Ethiopia, Morocco, and Vietnam. How does New-Caledonia compare to these countries when it comes to this topic? How hassle free is it in that sense? I would also like to ask the same about Vanuatu as I would probably combine both destinations.
Thanks!

Both are completely hassle-free.

There is no need to compare them to the the 3 countries you have been to where hassles and rip offs abound.

Thanks! Glad to read this. I posted the same question in the Mauritius forum. Would you have any experience/impressions for this destination as well (Mauritius and Réunion)?

2

Reunion is stunning and totally hassle-free and one of my favourite places in the world.

Mauritius is quite ugly in comparison and seriously overrated with a less welcoming vibe to it, though it is not really hassly either, certainly when compared to Ethiopia, Morocco or Vietnam.

Thank you for your input!
I am surprised your last comment didn't start a chain of reactions from fans of this destination... ;)

4

Well, fans of Mauritius don't read the Pacific branch, I guess.
