New Caledonia--Sept/Oct 2019 Diving and exploring

Hello--never been to New Caledonia--planning on diving, exploring the island. Tips on which dive companies are best to deal with-for multiple dives, also best places to explore on land. Will be there 12 days. Any tips welcome. I did read that eating out is expensive, but it looks like Americans get a good bang for the dollar. Thanks.

I know nothing about diving.
Ile des Pins is a nice destination for 2 or 3 nights.
You can also hire a car and explore the main island, inland is nice too.
The cheap solution for NC is camping (except in Noumea, where the cheapest solution is the Youth Hostel).
