Noumea and Lifou and Port Villa from a cruiseCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia
Hi. Going on a Pacific Island cruise. And there are day stops each at Noumea (3-10pm) and Lifou (8-5pm). and then Port Vila (8-5pm) in Vanuatu Though the holiday is more about the cruise experience, I'd like to maximize the day visits to these ports. It's a family with kids trip...kids between 8 - 13 years old. ANd no, we have not been to any Pacific Islands islands before . 1) How would you recommend we spend that time on land in these 3 ports ? Of course, we need to get back to the cruise ship on time... probably best to plan for about half an hour to get down the cruise ship ; and be back an hour before departure time. 2) WIshing we could do some snorkelling. But not sure if the ports are the right venue for snorkeling and if we have enough time. 3) Any must try local food ? Any recommended restaurants in these ports ? 4) If you know of any local tour guides with websites/contact info that you recommend, do let me know. Might be easiest to go thru that. Though there are such packages at the cruise ship, I'd rather go on our own vs many other passengers as organised by the cruise ship Thank you very much ERic
The wharf is a bit of walk away from the center of town...especially on a hot day with kids.... plenty of taxis or shared vans.....however the produce market in town should not be missed...one of the most interesting in the Pacific. The kids would enjoy outings to swim at the Cascades or the Blue Lagoon....or if you want to just have a leisurely slow day....just get a taxi to take you to the ferry for nearby Erakor Island....swim, restaurant and walk around island. | 1
