Noumea Question

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

We are having a one day stop in Noumea on a cruise ship. What would people recommend we do? Hire a car?? It seems that to do a trip you have to book it via the cruise ship which is really expensive. I have heard about a guide who is a POM who does day trips but cannot locate any details on him on the web. Does anyone know who this might be and how to contact him/her?

Thanks

To contact guides call the Tourism office - details here.. I would think taking tours might be cheaper than using a tour guide unless there are lots of you.

Avis have an office not far from the port and could possibly deliver it to the boat. You could do your own tour as Noumea is not that big.Busesand cabs might also suffice.

Went on a cruise last July with P&O...booked our tours on the ship, was pleasantly surprised after investigating prices at all the destinations when we got there that we paid no extra for the tours than booking direct and the Amedee Island trip was cheaper thru the ship. Amazing day trip but lots of sea snakes ( I hate snakes but felt fine with them there funnily enough! seemed to more sunning themselves on the island and when we entered the water didn't see any around us... For conveniance I would book thru the ship, I dont think you will regret it price wise :-)
