One day in Noumea

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Hi, hubby and I are in Noumea for one day (cruise ship) and would like to do our own thing instead of organised tours. Any suggestions would be good, we are thinking of getting the Le Petit Train and hopping on and off where we fancy, any ideas of prices for the train and what sort of timetable? Any other ideas would be great, thanks in advance

Le Petit Train is great, but you may find that all trains are booked out by the cruise ship. First visit the wharf markets (within walking distance of the ship , then try catching a local bus - catch it from the Place de Cocottiers bus stop (they go by colour) the one you want is the Green one to Anse Vata - go to the new aquarium & then just walk the length of the beach area. Have lunch in a cafe, soak up the local culture, then catch a bus back (they leave every 15 minutes) to the Place de Cocotiers - call in to the shopping centre on your right hand side & buy a very fattening pastry before you get back on the boat. Have Fun.
