Surfing in New Caledonia

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / New Caledonia

Hi - We're planning a one week surf trip to New Caledonia in May staying at Nekweta. Would appreciate any comment or trip reports re surfing here. Particularly interested to try and find out about consistency if swell and wind conditions

Thanks in advance.

Nekweta website.

I dont know of anyone who's been there but I can tell you that it is near the quaint Bourail - a largishown some 150km from Noumea on the south coast in the middle of Grande Terre.

Thanks Mandja - yes it's hard to find ANY reports from people who have surfed New Caledonia. From what I gather, the wind can be a problem with blowing out the surf, I'm not sure with the swell consistency, but I think we probably can't expect to get good surf every day of our trip - just hoping we don;t get too unlucky though and get no surfing in!!!!!

Gday jay dee,
im an ozzie currently working abroad in New Caledonia and regularly surf with Manu at Nekweta.
This time of the year the swell should be good, i always check out www.windguru.cz during the week at work to decide whether to surf or not. Poe beach or ilot tenia are the areas closest to Nekweta.
Email me on troy.harper@lucas.com.au for more info.
