Fun Cycling in Niue

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Niue

Large and mainly flat Niue is a cyclist's paradise. It has a 68km ring-road and over 150kms of tracks through tropical rain forest and gardens. On May 3rd there is a fun cycling event called The Rally of the Rock. For details go to www.markcross.nu</a> Book with Air New Zealand to get there.

Hi Crossie

are you likely to get many tourists going to Niue specifically for the cycling? As in the Tour of Niue that you have posted.
Just curious.
I'm sure it would be great for cycling (we only drove around), but with virtually no traffic and good roads it would make for a good ride. Probably would be better if there was a decent hill climb but you can't have everything.

Hi Dadams,

Its hard to know how many will be coming from overseas for the cycling event. We have about 15 confirmed half of which will be cycling. There may be a charter from Rarotonga but that is yet to be confirmed. The Rally was a popular annual event for locals up until the Cyclone in 04. This is the first since and we are promoting it overseas now because of the improved air service.

We do have the several 1km long up hills but this year it will be 50 km along the bush tracks and roads in the Liku/Lakepa area. All pretty much flat
