Speaking of Niue, what has ever happened to our animated poster "Crossie"?
Thanks for the link, mandja.

| Laszlo15:19 UTC30 Sep 2007 | Another problem with Niue is that getting there is only possible as a RT from Auckland.
So one has to be quite dedicated to go there - actually, I was the only non-Niuean passenger on that Air NZ flight from Niue to Auckland.

| nukuhiva219:07 UTC30 Sep 2007 | Nevertheless, Niue is worth it in my book.
I had to fly via Tongatapu at the time, what a drag. After spending some time in NukuAlofa, Niue struck me as a jewel. I liked the jungle walks, the cave, the lack of tourists, the Niueans. In July, the weather was perfect: cool nights and warm days.
On my flight, we had a group of Australian divers. On the next flight, a German with his bicycle arrived. The island is great for bike riders who don't like high hills.
I agree that the Canadian comparison has some value because the country and the island are clean, friendly, and safe. Pigs are penned (They don't dig up the countryside like they did in Tonga.), dogs don't roam and bite (See Samoa.), and locals talk to you because they take an interest in how you've managed to get to their island.

our trip via Tongatapu was well worth it. We loved Niue and was devastated by the news of cyclone Heta. I'd love to go again.

| Laszlo07:13 UTC01 Oct 2007 | Sure the connections from Tonga and Samoa were a great way to incorporate Niue into a wider South Pacific trip. Too bad they are no longer - I doubt peole will be quite as ready to detour there from Polynesia via Auckland.
Actually, one way to give tourism in Niue a boost would be including in into LP's NZ guidebook - Tokelau is in there anyway! Depicting it as an unspoilt Polynesian Paradise there might lure some people over from NZ.

He has these pics on his website, which would explain his abscence for the last little while:
Bike trek Tibet / Nepal
Hopefully he'll be back playing on the home branch soon, and will tell us all about his excellent adventures!
