Backpacker place in Saipan

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Northern Mariana Islands

I am looking for a good backpacker place in Saipan. Any good ideas anyone...?

Dear all, I am here in Saipan and it resembles a ghost town. The islands population has went down some 50% since the garment factories closed a year ago. Vacancies all over. If you take a taxi from the airport to Garapan you will pay around USD 30 but if you call what the islanders call a local taxi you will pay only USD 7 (try this number 483-9988). Cheapest place in town is Micro Beach Hotel. Rooms are clean and with private bathroom but that's also all worth saying about this place. Best hang around place is Java Beach Cafe - has WiFi. Enjoy...

There are much cheaper accomodations in Saipan than those listed above. My question would be what type of backpacking are you looking for? There are also many great places to explore in the northern islands that are less inhabited and might fit your bill.

I'm also wondering about backpacker accommodation there.
Can someone give me the name and price of the cheapest place, the best value for money and a place worth splurging on?
Price is very important so I can make a budget.
Cheers.

Hotel prices have risen considerably. You might luck out and find something for $40.00 a night. The average is $60.00 which includes an old kitchenette. Summer Holiday Hotel is one that comes to mind. As far as splurging, none of the hotels are worth the money they are asking. Probably the most interesting is the Pacific Island Club. This is a chain hotel and mostly caters to Koreans and Russians. They have an outdoor bar and a couple of pools along with a nice stretch of beach. When are you planning to travel?
